I study Architectural Technology at the University of Northampton, at the moment I am in the first year of the course. Blogging is something that we have been assigned to do on regular basis. It's a good way of communicating my thoughts and activities I've been doing outside and inside university. Throughout this year I will be posting about different modules and the work we've been delegated, my posts will evidence the hard work I put into this course.
Above was a picture taken from our first site visit, we roughly measured the location using various tool and conventional methods. Although we came came to see the location as a class, I will visit the place in the near future to carry out my own surveying, simply because I want to make sure that the measurements are as detailed as possible.
VISUAL STUDIES
Visual Studies module involves variety of drawings, it's so far my favourite module although the others are interesting too. This module is very interesting as I get to learn variety of drawing techniques such as orthographic projections, isometric drawings, plan drawings, one and two angle orthographic projections as well as adding light source. All techniques we incorporate do architectural drawings, especially elevation drawings and section drawings. More to come as I will posts my work for this module on this page.
PRINCIPLES OF ARCHITECTURE
This module focuses on the design element of architecture, we explore different ideas and architecture in regards to form and function. We have been assigned few projects already such
as "Span the gap" and as a part of that there are two separate projects that will link all link together to form one big project. On top of that we were also given buildings and architects to research, we will then present our findings to the class and discuss how the element of form and functions are operating within the design. It's a very broad module that links to other modules a lot.
Above you can see my work that I've been doing at home, except bottom right that my A level model. I enjoy painting, model making and other kind of art and crafts outside my course too, whenever an idea comes to my mind I go out and make it happen, all these have link to my life. The RV van is a link to breaking bad, TV series that I enjoy watching. The house on bottom left is a house in which a fictional character "Big Smoke" used to live, a Video game reference. Top Right is a painting I did of my idol Chael Sonnen, he's a former wrestler turned professional martial artist, this though links with my love and participation in martial arts; wrestling and boxing.
ARCHITECTURAL SURVEYING
After two weeks of surveying we were handed our first assignment. Our aim is to efficiently survey the site located at the cultural quarter in Northampton. We are pretty much assigned to create two dimensional and three dimensional hand drawn and measured drawings. As the second years have helped us at the start of the year with the principles of architecture assignment, we are now returning the favour by surveying the site for them as later in the year they will work on their design that will take place no the site.Above was a picture taken from our first site visit, we roughly measured the location using various tool and conventional methods.
